Roger Federer Beats Nadal In Australian Open Final To Win 18th Major Title

35 year old Roger Federer produced a masterclass performance to beat his great rival, Rafael Nadal 6-4 3-6 6-1 3-6 6-3 in a classic Australian Open final to capture his 18th major title and become the oldest grand slam winner since Ken Rosewall won the 1972 Australian Open at 37.

The Swiss maestro clawed his way back from 3-1 down in the pulsating final set before closing it out on the second championship point with a forehand winner, his 73rd on the night, to seal his fifth crown at Melbourne.Seeded 17th at the start of the tournament after a six-month layoff through injury, Federer capped his brilliant comeback from injury with his first grand slam title since edging Andy Murray to win Wimbledon in 2012 and also become the first player ever to win five titles at three different grand slams.
