Finally, Turkey Frees Detained Nigerian Students

The Turkish Embassy in Nigeria has debunked claims that some Nigerian students schooling in Turkey are under custody in connection to the failed coup allegedly sponsored by a popular Islamic cleric, Fethuller Gullen.

The country’s ambassador to Nigeria, Hakan Cakil, made this known in a statement, yesterday. He said “regarding the news in the media about the detention of Nigerian students in Turkey, the embassy wishes to bring the following information to the attention of the esteemed Nigerian media.

There are no Nigerian students under custody in Turkey.” He added that the four Nigerians who were deported on Friday, were not students, adding that they were arrested for entering the country illegally through the Turkish-Syrian border.
