A waitress identified as Kelly Carter was handed a racist note from a customer who refused to tip her because she is black. The pair left a note commending her for the ‘great service’ she’d provided, before adding they ‘don’t tip black people.
Kelly Carter, who had served the white couple at Anita’s New Mexico restaurant in Ashburn, Virginia, told NBC:
‘It was just total shock, that’s all I can say.
‘I looked at the receipt three times because I was shocked, because I’ve never been a server and seen that.’
‘I keep my head up. You have to keep moving.’
‘I was appalled, though it’s kind of in line with the political landscape unfortunately.
‘It’s disheartening, I’m outraged.’
The NAACP said:
‘Hatred will not be tolerated and we will not keep quiet.’
Hatred will not be tolerated and we will not keep quiet. This has been confirmed and did happen per Mgr @ Anita's in Ashburn. pic.twitter.com/UKaLCaKf9h
